A great real community engagement

47 volunteers from Huanui school showed up at Snell’s Point reserve in Ngungur last week to offer their time and work to the community. 47 students of different grades participated to the event, led by 6 dedicated teachers. Everyone was energetically willing to offer their time to weed this reserve, which is still so infested by pests after several years of SWAT work. We started targeting the area that was planted by Ngunguru Primary school a few months prior. Sprayed Agapanthus were coming back and some students and teachers spent a few hours forcefully digging out these tremendous pests off the slopes! Others were clearing bush and rocks and off other weeds: moth plant, mignonette vine, climbing asparagus, freesias, stonecrops. Such a change!

S.W.A.T. team came back a few days later with a few volunteers to remove the weeds from the site and pack 2 very full loads of trailers that they delivered to the transfer station: a total of 2.9 m3. A very successful event! Thank you Huanui, thank you S.W.A.T. volunteers!
