OUR VISION

Tutukaka Landcare Coalition empowers landowners on the Tutukaka Coast to protect, conserve, and foster native fauna and flora through effective pest control so that enduring habitats and biodiversity flourishes.

The aim of TLC is to restore balance and harmony to the natural biodiversity of the area, by coordinating efforts and resources of all interested parties: private landowners, Northland Regional Council (NRC), NZ Landcare Trust, DoC, iwi (Ngatiwai) and Whangarei District Council (WDC)

TLC protects the biodiversity of the Tutukaka Coast by:

Trapping predators: possum, stoats, ferrets, feral cats, rats, wild pigs

Monitoring Biodiversity: to keep an eye on positive changes to check our successes, or on decreases to check on environmental drivers of possible biodiversity decrease. Bird Counts and Kiwi Counts

Weed Control: controlling wildly invasive species of plant through Weedy Wednesdays, workshops, advocacy

Species Enhancement: kiwi and pāteke reintroduction

Advocacy and Education: advocating our stance on predator control and what the community can do to help; in particular dog control. Providing opportunities for education within the community on our goals for kiwi conservation, and both enhancing and protecting biodiversity, through workshops such as Know Your Dog, Kiwi Aversion Training, Twilight Markets
